7. Lama Tibet 14th-15th c. bronze w/ copper & silver inlay 4" 10.25 cm |
![]() Detail: back Seated on his elegant double lotus throne, this lama most assuredly represents a distinguished Tibetan personality. The precision of the casting, unsparing use of inlaid metals such as copper and silver, and distinguished facial features suggest that this historic personality was well known both to the artist and to the patron of this delightful sculpture. With his left hand seated in the lap of medition, the lama reaches out with his right hand to touch the earth - a posture commonly intimated by the genuflects of the Sakyamuni Buddha. Detail: left |
