This fragment of the lower body of a figure of Samvara is a tour de force of Himalayan metal work, perfectly executed and finely detailed. The almost perfect condition of the fragment indicates that the sculpture may have been cut up for melting - likely during the Cultural Revolution - and that, for some reason, this fragment was left. The chest is flattened to accomodate the figure of the god's consort, and the square patch was both a casting device to secure the inner mold, and also likely access to a small consecration chamber.
